The Entrée Ritual lasted three hours, and Isaac became increasingly hungry. He knew that these saints had been accustomed to such meals for decades. For anyone else, it would undoubtedly be an unusual experience.
The Grand Abbot asked a total of five questions, and the other three candidates almost all made a memorable impression. However, Karmic remained seated and never stood up to answer.
The four chief abbots harbored their intentions. However, after witnessing Karmic's meek behavior, Zansam seemed to have lost hope in his chosen candidate by the end of the meal.
As the ritual concluded, the Grand Abbot rose and left. At the doorway, he unexpectedly stopped and turned toward Isaac.
"Mr. Garten, would you join me for morning prayers the day after tomorrow?"
