About a dozen military cars surrounded the station. Then, an armed force rushed down from the cars and surrounded the building once more.
A black Audi rolled to a stop in front of the office building.
A soldier opened the door, and a man in his late-50s stepped out of the car. He was dressed in a black jacket and had a stern look. His hands were behind his back as he walked forward.
Another Audi stopped behind the first one. A second man got down from the car. He was a slightly plump middle-aged man dressed in full uniform.
He was Gideon Thornfield, the deputy chief of law enforcement in Southland.
