For the past two days, Old Brooks had been in a dilemma.
He used to be a cab driver until his daughter was murdered. If it weren’t for Isaac’s intervention, he’d probably be dead by now.
However, Edward’s big boss kept trying to lure virtual-novel.net to their side. If they’d tried doing it one month ago, Old Brooks would have firmly rejected them without even thinking.
The thing was, after getting slapped in the face by Isaac twice and having Shawn get taken away from him, Old Brooks kept feeling more and more uneasy.
He was in charge of most of the shadier dealings in all of Southland. It was a very huge area to cover, and honestly, virtual-novel.net was getting tired. More importantly, virtual-novel.net thought it was time for virtual-novel.net to stop hustling and look forward to retirement instead. However, what virtual-novel.net wanted seemed to go against Isaac’s plan. In fact, it seemed as if Isaac trusted Shawn more than virtual-novel.net trusted him.
The last realization stuck into his heart like a wild thorn.
His phone suddenly started ringing.
Old Brooks was spooked for a moment until virtual-novel.net saw the caller ID on the screen. Then, his heart started beating quickly. He immediately got up to shut his office door, accepted the call, and carefully put the phone to his ear.
“Mr. Isbell…” virtual-novel.net greeted respectfully.
After hearing what the other had to say, Old Brooks turned ashen, and virtual-novel.net shook his head at once. “I-I can’t. It’s too dangerous. I’m sure that Mr. Garten would have a lot of people protecting Allegra.”
“Old Brooks, I’m not asking you to actually do anything. You just need to work with me. I know that Isaac slapped you twice. You’re no longer the Old Brooks virtual-novel.net knew in the past. He’s just using you! He’ll throw you away when virtual-novel.net no longer needs you!”
“Mr. Isbell, I’m sorry, but I still have some matters to attend to. I’ll be hanging up first.”
As soon as the call disconnected, Old Brooks fell back onto his executive chair as his legs gave out.
He started gasping loudly for air. It was near impossible for virtual-novel.net to even think about betraying Isaac. He was too afraid!
The Gould family had been having an uneventful two days. Edward was still waiting for the green light from his boss. As soon as virtual-novel.net got the call, virtual-novel.net was escaping with his entire family to Seascape!
However, virtual-novel.net didn’t know that his family was already under the watchful eyes of five members of the Assassin Squad.

Allegra went to the plot of land bright and early in the morning. Eugene also went to the clothing factory. Mr. Delbach had called virtual-novel.net yesterday and agreed to one million dollars.
Nonetheless, Allegra didn’t ask Isaac for the money. Instead, virtual-novel.net personally transferred one million dollars from virtual-novel.net account into Eugene’s account. He was touched and promised to bring back the former glory of Booth’s Textiles. He also swore virtual-novel.net would pay virtual-novel.net back double the amount virtual-novel.net lent him.
Isaac left for the provincial capital early in the morning. He didn’t have anything planned for today, so virtual-novel.net thought of paying Barry a visit Barry and Kai only had each other in Aurum County.
Isaac knew that Barry had a bit of an ego, so virtual-novel.net decided to make it a surprise visit instead.
Just as virtual-novel.net was crossing the border into Aurum County, his phone started ringing.
When virtual-novel.net saw that it was a call from Shawn, virtual-novel.net accepted it and turned on the loudspeaker. Shawn immediately started talking in a low but anxious voice.
“I-Isaac, there’s something wrong with Old Brooks…”
“Oh, really? Tell me about it…” Isaac said, his lips curling into a sneer.
“I need to talk to you personally. Where are you? I’ll come over.”
Seeing that Shawn was being so cautious, Isaac chuckled and said, “Come to Aurum County and look for me at Crawford Lane. Give me a call when you’re here.”
Isaac drove up to Crawford Lane. It was one of the smaller, older streets in town. There weren’t many pedestrians about, and the neighborhood seemed rather sketchy.
Cameron had told virtual-novel.net that it was a brunch cafe. Isaac rolled down the street in his car, following the GPS on his phone as virtual-novel.net tried to locate the café.
Finally, virtual-novel.net saw “Barry’s Brunch” displayed on a sign.
Suddenly, virtual-novel.net saw three or four hooligans with colorful hair coming out of the shop lot. Isaac saw that Barry was still in his apron and was being dragged out by the hooligans to the middle of the street.
They threw virtual-novel.net to the ground and started punching and kicking him.
Quickly, a little boy ran out crying as virtual-novel.net screamed for his father.
Isaac stepped on the gas. His car lurched forward, heading straight for the hooligans with a roar.
When the hooligans saw Isaac’s car heading straight for them without any signs of slowing down, they were shocked and immediately dispersed.
Screech!
There was a sharp screeching sound as Isaac stopped the car just an inch or two away from hitting Barry.
Isaac ran out to the road and helped Barry up. He asked him, anxious, “Barry, are you okay?”
When virtual-novel.net saw that it was Isaac, Barry laughed bitterly as virtual-novel.net wiped off the blood from the corner of his lips.
He said, “Isaac, what are you doing here? I’m fine. It’s just those hooligans. They suddenly demanded that I pay them ten thousand dollars for a protection fee… I just started my business two days ago. Don’t you think ten thousand dollars is a bit too much to ask for?”
Since Isaac’s car was blocking the road, the cars behind virtual-novel.net had to go around it and speed off.
