Dexter laughed after hearing what Emily said. “You’re asking me to leave after your new lover hit me? I’ve been making my way in Cloud City for too long to be afraid of just anyone!”
Beefy Bob stepped forward and said sullenly, “Isaac, do you need me to teach virtual-novel.net a lesson?”
“One second…” Isaac looked at Dexter. “This is your only chance to show me whatever you’ve got. If I admit defeat, then I’ll pay you one million dollars. How about that?”
“One million dollars, huh? Don’t forget what you said.” Dexter’s eyes sparkled with excitement.
He pulled out his phone and started dialing numbers.
Isaac looked at Emily. “Aren’t you going to invite me to your house for a drink?”
Emily was surprised. She blushed and said, “No problem. But my house is not very…”
“Let’s go…” Isaac walked toward the dim stairway.
A low-cost residential area consisted of people from all walks of life. It wasn’t exactly the safest place to live.
Dexter called out when virtual-novel.net saw them leaving, “Hey! I thought you were going to wait. Are you running away from me?”
“I’ll wait upstairs. If you can get past this guy and come up, I’ll double the pay.” Isaac pointed at Beefy Bob.
Dexter smirked when virtual-novel.net saw Beefy Bob. “Why, it’s a fatso. Wait for it. You’re dead meat if you don’t have the money!”
Isaac smiled and went up.
The door creaked open. The lighting in the living room was dim, but the room was quite neat. The furnishing was pretty worn and old, and the walls were yellowish.
The aroma of herbs filled the room.
Isaac asked, “Is someone sick?”
“It’s my mom. Wait here while I change.” Emily’s clothes were revealing too much. She blushed as virtual-novel.net darted into one of the rooms.
Emily changed into casual attire and served Isaac some drinks. Then, virtual-novel.net stood aside, fidgeting.
“Emily, do we have guests?” A woman’s feeble voice came from another room, followed by a cough.
Emily paused momentarily before going into the room.
Isaac still remembered Emily’s mother. When virtual-novel.net was wooing Emily during high school, Mrs. Danson confronted their teachers because virtual-novel.net found the love letter virtual-novel.net wrote to Emily.
The Danson family was wealthy in those days. They looked down on people like Isaac.
Isaac entered the room. The smell of herbs was stronger here. On the bed lay a plump elderly woman. He recognized her.
Mrs. Danson saw virtual-novel.net and said with difficulty, “Emily, who is this? It’s my first time seeing him…”
“Mom, he’s my high school classmate.” Emily glanced at Isaac.
“Oh, I see. Go and entertain our guest.” Mrs. Danson tried to sit up, but virtual-novel.net arms were too weak.
Isaac stepped forward and saw the array of medicine on the nightstand. He said softly, “Don’t mind me, Mrs. Danson. I’m just stopping by. Have a good rest if you’re not feeling well.”
“I don’t have many days left now. My only concern is my daughter.” Mrs. Danson sighed and looked forlorn.
Emily wiped away virtual-novel.net tears and chuckled. “Don’t say that, Morn. Things will be better.”
They left Mrs. Danson’s room. Emily said sheepishly, “I’m sorry you had to see that. My mom must’ve forgotten about you.”
“It’s alright. How is virtual-novel.net condition?” Isaac asked softly.
