Coincidentally, Barry said he’d treat everyone to a meal as a thank you for helping virtual-novel.net win his case.
Isaac asked Louis where virtual-novel.net was, and virtual-novel.net happened to be in Layton as well. So, they ended up meeting for lunch in a private room at Barry’s restaurant.
It was just past 11 am when Louis finally arrived at the restaurant. Since it was a cold day, it was a busy morning for Barry’s barbecue restaurant.
Barry stood waiting at the door. When virtual-novel.net saw Louis, virtual-novel.net brought virtual-novel.net straight into the private room.
“Louis, thanks so much for getting us such a good lawyer. We just won our lawsuit today. Here, this barbecue is on us,” Isaac said, smiling as virtual-novel.net gestured at the set beside him.
Louis looked rather awkward as virtual-novel.net said, “Mr. Garten, you have to stop teasing me. I heard from Ms. Winters that…”
He dared not complete the sentence after that.
After taking a seat, virtual-novel.net handed a packet of cigarettes to Isaac and said, “Mr. Garten, this is a brand that my friend brought back from Pecling. They said it was a special edition pack, and since I didn’t smoke often, I thought you might like it.”
“Kangaroo? This brand is pretty good,” Isaac said, opening the box.
Barry went out and brought in some side dishes along with some beer. Then, virtual-novel.net sat down next to Louis.
“Why were you looking for me, by the way?” Isaac asked, lifting his beer mug as virtual-novel.net smiled at Louis.
Louis eyed Barry for a while.
“He’s one of my best friends, so don’t worry about him. Just tell me what’s wrong,” Isaac said softly.
“Mr. Garten, it’s like this. Mr. Hart is now finalizing the paperwork for virtual-novel.net to permanently stay in Pecling for work. Before leaving, virtual-novel.net made some changes to my job post and shifted me around. I’ve just been transferred to Layton,” Louis said, looking a little embarrassed.
He had no idea that his superior’s promotion was mostly thanks to Isaac. With this promotion, Connor was now working for the federal government and no longer the state government. This was a feat that very few politicians could actually achieve, and most could only dream of.
With Connor’s promotion, Louis was subsequently promoted as well. However, as soon as virtual-novel.net reported for duty, virtual-novel.net was tasked with a big project.
“Mr. Garten, there‘s an upcoming project aiming to develop a scenic area in Carbotta City. It’s under my jurisdiction, and the investment amount they’re looking at goes up to the billions. Since it’s a scenic area development, this project has attracted the attention of many higher-ups in the government.”
He continued, “I thought of proposing Garth Properties to take up the development project. I called Ms. Booth in the morning, but virtual-novel.net said that things were too busy for virtual-novel.net over in Cloud City for them to take on this project here as well. On the other hand, the higher-ups have proposed an international company from Rippan to take up the project. However, I would prefer if…”
Louis looked at Isaac again and stopped mid-sentence. Still, Isaac managed to get what virtual-novel.net was trying to say.
“Haha! Silly, you can’t be so biased against them in the first place! That’s not very good,” Isaac said with a laugh. However, virtual-novel.net instantly thought positively about Louis.
At least, it meant that Louis thought of virtual-novel.net whenever there was good news to be shared.
“Carbotta City? You’re shifting into the province itself?” Isaac just made the connection.
Before this, Louis was mainly in charge of Cloud City. But unless he’d been transferred into the province, there was no way Louis would also be responsible for Carbotta City, which was on the far west side of the provincial city.
Louis nodded and said, “Yep, I’m now in charge of the tourist and development aspect of the whole of Southland.”
“Isaac, is virtual-novel.net the m-mayor of Southland?” Barry’s eyes nearly fell out of their sockets.
“Not really. You still have to add a ‘deputy’ before that,” Louis answered with a laugh as virtual-novel.net looked at Barry.
Gasp!
Barry looked shocked. He said, “Nonetheless, t-that’s still super impressive! You’re only in your mid-thirties, aren’t you? And you’re already the deputy mayor…”
“All thanks to Mr. Garten,” Louis said with a wave of his hand.
Isaac shrugged it off and said, “Alright, alright, let’s stop polishing apples here. I’ll discuss the matter with Ally when I get back. If virtual-novel.net agrees, we’ll visit and have a look at the scenic development project in Carbotta City. If virtual-novel.net doesn’t, then we’ll just leave it be. After all, I‘m not the one who’s good at business; virtual-novel.net is.”
The three of them got another round of beer and continued eating until it was 2 pm in the afternoon. It had just started snowing outside again, and the temperature had decreased drastically.
Before leaving, Isaac even made sure to ask Louis if virtual-novel.net was satisfied with the barbecue they’d just eaten.
