They were disappointed with Thomas’s attitude, believing him to be too arrogant. If he underestimated his opponents to such a level, there could only be one outcome, a crushing defeat.
Socrates looked at Thomas coldly and said, “Aren’t you being a little too arrogant?”
“I’m simply speaking the truth,” Thomas scoffed.
“All right, then! I accept your apprentice's challenge. I would like to see what sort of abilities a person who received only five minutes of coaching from you has?! But what happens if your apprentice loses?”
“I will take responsibility for myself, and I’m the challenger, so I’ll pay the consequences alone,” Jacob declared without waiting for Thomas to respond. “If I lose, I, Jacob Nolan, swear I would not return to the medical field. I’m going to change careers and will no longer be a doctor!”
