Remus would never take the route of coming back after agreeing to the Dark Deity's order. If he wanted to kill them, he'd do it openly and straightforwardly!
The reason for needing to kill them was straightforward. Aside from past grudges, it came down to the fact that if they had chosen to live quietly under the radar, it might not have come to this.
But they didn't do that. Not only that, but they also created the Dark World, took over that small island, and aimed to seize control of Darsia. This could not be allowed to continue!
Ultimately, Remus needed to save his parents and eliminate the Upper Realms. Whether he succeeded or not was uncertain, but if he failed, they would be Darsia's greatest threat. So, he needed to kill them for Darsia.
