There was no response, not even an echo. The surrounding darkness seemed to not only let light through but also absorb sound, creating an invisible sense of oppression.
"Is anybody there?" Remus spoke again.
As expected, his voice was once again lost in oblivion, and the silence was terrifying.
He struggled to sit up. Though he was awake, the intense pain hadn't subsided. It felt as if all his bones were broken. This was a piercing agony he hadn't felt in a long time.
He struggled to take two steps forward but hit the rock hard, almost making him stumble.
