Though Tawanna was hesitant, she accepted the party invitation for the evening, not for her own sake but to maintain a good rapport for future business dealings with Bernard.
Bernard's assistant let out a sigh of relief and politely stated, "Miss Sweet, you and your family should take care on your way. I’ll have the butler escort you back to the villa first so you can rest. Mr. Arnault has instructed that if you need anything on this island, feel free to ask the butler, everyone on White Horse Island is eager to cater to your needs."
Tawanna nodded and replied, "I appreciate your assistance, Mr. Arnault."
The assistant smiled discreetly to himself, thinking, "Miss Sweet must not have grasped the full implication of my words. It’s the entire island that will exert itself to meet his needs, but it won’t be complimentary. Mr. Arnault aims to maintain frugality, so it's unlikely to bear the full costs of her party’s consumption..."
At one point, he considered subtly cautioning Tawanna, but then thought better of it. If Tawanna felt displeased, Bernard might reprimand him for speaking too freely.
