For Charlie, Gustavo became useless once he had successfully approached Bruce Weinstein.

A once-powerful Mexican drug lord now found himself locked away in an American prison, while his son harbored thoughts of ending his life as soon as possible. In Charlie's eyes, such a man had little practical value left.

There was a way to restore Gustavo's usefulness, though, taking him out of prison, returning him to Mexico, and aiding him in regaining control of the Sanchez family.
