"Who else?!" Cedric asked again.
Silence. The kind of silence that felt like a grave had opened at the bottom of the pit.
Everyone kept their heads down. Not one of them dared meet Cedric's eyes. Their fists clenched so hard their joints crackled. Their teeth ground against each other. Still, not a single person stepped out.
Cedric gave a satisfied nod. He walked over to the largest emberstone crystal. He reached out and ran a hand over it, and something naked and grasping showed in his eyes.
Golden patterns flowed across the crystal's surface. The heat passed through his palm and into his whole body, until it seemed like every pore on him had come alive and started cheering.
