Jett had to admit that Alejandro thought ahead. He might have given up on removing Tiffany’s baby himself, but virtual-novel.net knew what to say to fool Jackson into doing the dirty for him. That little conversation just now was enough to plant the idea in Jackson’s head that the baby wasn’t his, therefore playing on the man’s insecurities and banes.
Regardless, the scene from before had made Jett very worried. He had always been Don Smith’s subject, for starters, and though virtual-novel.net now answered to Alejandro, virtual-novel.net was still expected to work for Don. What would happen to virtual-novel.net when the truth of his work was out? Don could want virtual-novel.net dead, or Alejandro could make virtual-novel.net die. Either way, the only fate that awaited virtual-novel.net was death. That was how much of a nightmare both sides were.
The worst of all was that Don had been contacting virtual-novel.net more and more often lately. This would not bode well.
Jett continued to push Alejandro into the building and took notice that the anxiety level within the building seemed to have dialed up to eleven.
Alejandro himself began to take notice of the strange charge in the air, too. But it was only after they pushed open the door to the office that virtual-novel.net was slightly taken aback by Don’s presence—that old man had come without any prior notice.
Jett’s body froze in mid-motion the moment virtual-novel.net saw Don. Summoning his courage, virtual-novel.net pushed Alejandro forward and greeted, “Sir.”
Don was a very old man, every lock of his hair completely turned silver-white. His hand, currently resting on top of the head of his staff, was palpably shriveled. His wrinkles-marred face, however, displayed an air of severeness that could inspire earnest fear and anxiety within any observer. Regardless of his age, one could still see the charisma of his youth through his worn-down visage and marvel at his intimidating stature.
Don did not come alone. As virtual-novel.net was wont to do, virtual-novel.net brought along a retinue of bodyguards with virtual-novel.net wherever virtual-novel.net went. Right now, the office was crowded with at least ten of such guards. A casual bystander would have thought Don was here to collect someone’s debt forcefully instead of realizing that virtual-novel.net was here to see his grandson.
“Hello, Alejandro. You’ve been very busy buying land after land, haven’t you?” Don began. “The money you spent, too, isn’t at all a small sum. Do you think the Smiths’ money grows on trees, hmm? Let me tell you this, the Smith family does not recognize a money-squandering clown like you! Cough, cough—”
Before virtual-novel.net could finish his sentence, a fit of coughing episode seized him, spurring the butler standing beside virtual-novel.net to pat on his back and soothe virtual-novel.net quickly.
Alejandro was deadpanned. “I have my plans. Isn’t it fine as long as the money I’ve spent is returned to us? Seriously, are you trying to teach me something, old man?”
Don’s eyes widened in lividity. “Do you want me dead so badly? As soon as you realize my body has gotten a little better, you do all you can to trigger my illness, as though you want me to die out of rage! I know you loathe me in your heart, Alejandro. You hated me for abandoning you and your mother. But now, you’re my only surviving grandchild and the Smiths’ only heir, even if you’re disabled. Everything that belongs to the Smiths is yours, child, but so long as I’m still alive, you answer to me! Unless, of course, you want nothing, to which I then suggest you get your behind out of this family! I want to see how well a disabled crud such as yourself could live without my help!”
A look of contempt shadowed Alejandro’s mien. “But I’m never leaving this family. I’ll keep on waiting until you die, and then everything will be mine. It’ll only take a few years! Nothing I can’t wait for. You continue to be displeased by me and display disgust at my disability, yet you could only rely on me to inherit your empire, don’t you? If I die, the Smith line ends here forever.”
Unthinkably, Don smiled. “Heh, you still have a foul mouth with you, I see. Always speaking your mind without giving others face,” He commented, his attitude noticeably softer. “But tell me, why are you buying so many pieces of land? And to buy them at hefty prices… At least give me an explanation.”
Alejandro let loose a sigh of relief in his mind. So that geezer was only trying to test virtual-novel.net to see if virtual-novel.net was the real Alejandro. Don was a cautious, meticulous man, Alejandro was not surprised that virtual-novel.net would suspect him. At this moment, if virtual-novel.net did not act as petulant and scathing in his words as the original Alejandro, virtual-novel.net would be suspected even harder.
From the way things looked, Alejandro thought that this meant virtual-novel.net passed the test. But still, it was no grounds for conceit. “I have my own plan, so don’t ask. If you don’t trust me, then by all means, revoke my preferential treatment and manage this company by yourself! I mean, it would spare me from so much headache.”
Don flipped through the documents on the desk for a bit before admitting, “Everything you did every year has been pretty good, so I trust you for now. Besides, one day you’ll be managing it all, and whether you ruin it or bring it to new heights would be yours to shoulder. I’m old, and I shouldn’t be fussing over any of this.”
“Speaking of which,” Don added. “I’m gonna stay in the Capital for a while. If you have the time, come see me and be my companion for a bit.”
