A car outside their window flew past them at a rapid speed. The sound of its screeching tires pierced through their ears. The sound of it was very abrupt, a stark contrast to the silence in their car.
Arianne did not reply, but her answer was self-evident.
“F*ck!” Tiffany cursed. “I should have known! Now I finally understand why you can’t seem to fall in love with such a drop-dead gorgeous and wealthy man like Mark. You’re a harmless and innocent little lamb, and he’s a wolf who takes a bite out of you whenever he’s upset. Yet, despite everything, you still must be grateful to him for raising you!”
Arianne seemed relatively calm compared to Tiffany’s righteous indignation, “It’s not as vile as you think. I don’t love him, the only thing that bothered me about his relationship with Aery was her identity. I wasn’t too bothered with his extra-marital affairs. I admit that I was hurt after he had covered up for her, but I... Can’t hate him."
“Do you know, he told me that he once loved me, after I was caught in bed with Will... I’ve let down a man who other women couldn’t bear to disappoint. What’s wrong with letting him hurt me? It doesn’t matter, we’re even. I don’t love him anyway... I’ve hurt him more than once, unintentionally. What gives me the right to play the victim?"
