Having realized something was wrong, Abdul asked tentatively, “Maybe I should move first. I’d be in danger if Ralph and Alimu were working together.”
Abdul started to feel worried. He could not help but worry that virtual-novel.net was no longer in control of things now that virtual-novel.net knew about Alimu’s betrayal. However, virtual-novel.net could not help but feel relieved as well.
He could not imagine how horrible things would have been if virtual-novel.net had not contacted Jasper and learned about the situation within the clan, his initial plan had been to reach out to Sahar for refuge. After all, Sahar was the only one who could potentially stand a chance against Kimbra.
Before talking to Jasper, virtual-novel.net was so sure that Kimbra was the man who sent the guards after him. That was why virtual-novel.net considered reaching out to Sahar since Kimbra and Sahar were on opposing sides.
Never would it have crossed his mind that Sahar was the one after him, and virtual-novel.net had almost just handed himself over on a silver platter. He could almost imagine how elated Sahar would have looked if virtual-novel.net had done that.
Jasper gave it some thought before answering, “Change locations, but keep in contact with your men. Regardless of whether they have been compromised, we shouldn’t alert them that we know. In fact, we might even be able to learn more about what’s happening from them…”
Abdul immediately told Jasper his original plan.
Jasper was overjoyed. “And do your subordinates know about your plan?”
Abdul hesitated. “I’ve revealed some parts of it, but it was just an idea back then.”
Jasper smiled, “Alright. I think you can tell them that you plan to reach out to Sahar for refuge and then see if there’s anything we can learn from that. If Sahar’s sending his men after you, it must mean he’s already got a candidate in mind to replace you. If I’m right, there should be an inside man among your subordinates who betrayed you for this…”
“But if you sought refuge with Sahar, that would disrupt their original plan and feed into their dissatisfaction about their deal with Sahar. Someone will expose themselves, and that’s the perfect opportunity to gather intel. With our true intentions unknown, we have the upper hand.”
Abdul was silent. He did not expect Jasper to devise a way to utilize this betrayal and raise his chances of survival.
He could not help but recall a Somer phrase that Baltimore had said before, “Do one’s utmost even when dealing with a minor problem.”
As great as the plan sounded, Abdul still felt wary.
“I don’t mind, but wouldn’t it be risky? I’m still running for my life, and if I want them to trust me, I’ll have to give them a good reason to. But I can’t let them find me either. My safety is at stake…”
“Mr. Laine, as you said earlier, if I express my inclinations to seek refuge with Sahar, he’ll welcome me with open arms. But what about those others virtual-novel.net promised? They’ll want me dead, won’t they?”
“I need to know that I’ll be safe…”
