Gideon's tactical suggestion made Bud's face twitch. Then, without warning, Bud shoved the barrel of his gun right against Gideon's forehead.
"You're trying to send me out there as bait, huh?! Then what? You sell me out and run to Nathaniel for a deal, is that it?!"
Gideon's thoughtful expression instantly turned to panic. "Bud! You've misunderstood me completely! I swear on my life, I've got no intention of betrayal!"
Bud stared into Gideon's eyes, searching for any sign of deceit.
When he saw none, he finally lowered the weapon.
