Feeling the silence enveloping him, Matthew softly said, "Madam Peregrine?"
He opened his eyes after hearing no response and was taken aback by what he saw.
The sunny sun and white clouds hanging in the sky had now turned into a dark night with a waning moon. The small courtyard from before had vanished, replaced by a messy street.
Black smoke billowed from wrecked cars that had been piled haphazardly. Streetlamps on both sides of the road were also damaged as their lights flickered on and off. There was no one around, and the buildings that were all around were in a terrible state of ruin.
Where on earth is this place?
