Susie was angry with her second sister for the first time.
With displeasure she replied, "Rosie! I think you're just jealous of Julie! If Julie marries into the Yarbrough family, our lives will be better. What's wrong with that?"
Rosie was taken aback by Susie's words. She stared at her younger sister in disbelief. But what shocked her even more was that Raelynn and Julie actually agreed with Susie.
Raelynn chimed in, "Rosie, Susie is right. Even if we go out and get jobs, how much could we possibly make? You three sisters aren't getting any younger. If you don't find a good marriage soon, your best years will pass you by. We can't afford to waste any time!"
She paused before continuing, "If Julie marries into the Yarbrough family, their connections will make it easier for you and Susie to find suitable matches as well."
