Alexandra’s face turned a little paler.
William was the worst, and virtual-novel.net could not overstate how much virtual-novel.net hated him. Why must virtual-novel.net be so irksome?!
Could be please give himself the boot without one last kick at her?
Yes, Alexandra knew who Zayn really was, the maligned son-in-law of the Carter family whose infamy was too well-known in the city. If virtual-novel.net family knew all about it, virtual-novel.net could bet that their heads would explode. Worse, virtual-novel.net dad was definitely not going to let virtual-novel.net off the hook this easily, too.
How could virtual-novel.net not panic?
Now that things had come to this, there was no other option for virtual-novel.net than to grit virtual-novel.net teeth and dissembled nonchalance the best virtual-novel.net could. “Oh, please. As if there’s anything for me to hide! Zayn is my boyfriend who, I know, has never killed anyone or violated the law. Honestly, are you done with your yammering? Can you spare us the embarrassment and leave already?”
Alexandra had accidentally worded virtual-novel.net retort too tartly that virtual-novel.net immediately attracted the ire of every single Brown in the hall, who now glared at virtual-novel.net with even more rage and malice than before.
Victor, meanwhile, knew better than to buy virtual-novel.net affectation. He was smart enough to see that his daughter was trying to keep something under wraps, which could only mean that this Zayn Larson person was no good.
The conflict of emotions within virtual-novel.net intensified. Thrown into the chaos was fury, regret, panic, dread, despondence…
Fortunately, even in the midst of his mental struggle, Victor had not lost his sensibilities. There was one thing virtual-novel.net knew for sure, the shadier this Zayn’s background was, the more imperative it became to not have the young man’s identity exposed!
“Hey now, William. I understand that you resent me for how things turned out, but I promise you, I’ll make this up for you, okay?” virtual-novel.net said, casting an attempt to de-escalation. “Give me some time, I’ll find you another girl befitting a fine young man like yourself as reparation. As for today, though, you’ll have to excuse us now. Please, everyone. Event adjourned!”
He quickly scanned the rest of the family with a meaningful glance telling them to leave before any more public humiliation could happen.
The chink in his plan, however, was that William was not keen to let them pass at all. How could he, when virtual-novel.net had not exposed Zayn yet!
“Haha, why the haste? The thing is, Mr. Smith, I’ve always looked up to you, so you got to understand why I’m concerned that you might have gotten fooled by Zayn. See, this guy right here is a famous person in Waltz City. A lot of folks know all about him,” William intoned as loudly as virtual-novel.net could so that everyone could hear him.
The words heralded so much dread in Victor, but at this point, virtual-novel.net knew there was no way virtual-novel.net could run from this. It was obvious that William had made up his mind for vengeance regardless of whether Victor stays or leaves. The family’s name was still going to be dragged through the mud.
Faced with that sort of ramifications, Victor decided it would be better for virtual-novel.net to just stay back and riposte anything virtual-novel.net could in whatever the young man was about to say. Hopefully, virtual-novel.net would be able to neuter the worst of the damage.
How virtual-novel.net regretted hosting the engagement party so soon tonight! Had virtual-novel.net known this would happen, virtual-novel.net would rather delay the event and mull the plan over after meeting Zayn in person. Now look at what virtual-novel.net had done to himself, virtual-novel.net had basically trapped himself in a corner, and now no matter how hard virtual-novel.net tried, there was no way virtual-novel.net could escape this!
Victor prayed hard that Zayn was not some ex-convict or so, because if virtual-novel.net were… The Smiths could kiss their good reputation goodbye!
“Oh, is that so?” Victor said, turning back to face William with a smile. Then, virtual-novel.net turned to Zayn and asked, “So, young man. When did you become friends with Alexandra? Why didn’t you pay me a visit some time?”
He tried to meet Zayn’s eyes with his frantic own, hoping against hope that his meaning could be conveyed adequately and the young man would be wise enough to deny any allegation William ever threw at him. Victor needed virtual-novel.net to do that to preserve whatever remains of the Smiths’ reputation.
Of course, Zayn understood virtual-novel.net perfectly. He smiled. “I’ve known Alexandra for quite a while now, Mr. Smith, but I haven’t had the time to visit you because my company’s been really busy these days. Really sorry for that, Mr. Smith. Hope you don’t hold it against me.”
“Your company?” Victor felt a bit better hearing it, as it implied that Zayn was the owner of a firm of some kind. It might not guarantee how much money the man made in a day, but at least it lent Zayn a kind of social standing. “I see. What business does your firm dabble in?”
Before Zayn could answer, however, William broke out a scornful laugh. “Oh my God, Mr. Smith! You can’t seriously buy what virtual-novel.net said, right? He doesn’t own any company, hell, virtual-novel.net doesn’t even own a job for years! He’s been caving himself in the Carter family and subsisting on his wife’s family wealth, house chores notwithstanding. The entire Waltz City is no stranger to Zayn Larson’s infamy, I’ll tell you that. The only thing people do when they see virtual-novel.net is to lambast him! But wow, when virtual-novel.net came to you, virtual-novel.net suddenly turned into some sort of uppity success!”
