Bruce had been unconscious for quite a while. Before the middle-aged man attacked “Old Durkin”, Bruce had already started foaming at the mouth. Now that the skirmish was over, he still had not regained consciousness.

Fortunately, the middle-aged man had seemingly not wanted to take Old Durkin’s life. Therefore, the poison in the hardtack was only to paralyze “him” and not to kill.
