The firefighters glanced at one another and back at the parents. They understood how important their children meant to them.
One of the firefighters stood out and said, “Captain, let us in! It’s my job to bring every person to safety and I’d feel better of myself even if I could only save only one child!”
The captain’s eyes were scarlet as he shouted, “It is the commander’s order for all of you to stay put! Now, help me stop these parents from rushing in. I will not allow any of them to risk their lives like this!”
The firefighter was indignant. “Captain! There are approximately a dozen lives stuck up there. Besides, they’re kids! How could you be so cold-hearted?”
The captain replied emotionlessly, “You’re right. I am cold-hearted. That’s why I didn’t allow you to enter the building.”
